Building a multi-channel outbound strategy for insurtech

The Multi-Channel Reality for Insurtech Outbound

Insurance technology buyers ignore single-channel outreach. They're managing underwriting workflows, compliance updates, and budget reviews across email, LinkedIn messages, phone calls, and team Slack channels all at once. If you only cold email a VP of Claims at a mid-market carrier, you're competing for attention against four other channels in their inbox. If you only call, you hit voicemail. The winners in insurtech outbound sequence across all channels in coordinated campaigns, not random one-offs.

We've tracked this with our own calling teams at Nurturance. When we layer LinkedIn connection + email sequence + phone outreach within a 5-day window, appointment rates double compared to email-only campaigns. The lift comes from repetition without aggression, meeting prospects where they actually work.

Why Insurtech is Different

Insurtech buyers have longer sales cycles than other verticals. They're not racing to make decisions like SaaS or fintech buyers. The average insurtech deal takes 90-120 days from first conversation to close. That means your first touchpoint is often not the last. You need to stay in the conversation across multiple channels without feeling pushy.

Insurtech also skews toward regulated environments. A compliance officer or CRO is running through risk checklists. They need proof, precedent, and patience. Cold calls work here because they're skeptical of blind email promises. LinkedIn works because they can validate your company and positioning before taking your call.

Channel Strategy for Insurtech

LinkedIn Outreach

Start with a targeted LinkedIn connection request paired with a personalized note. Don't mention your product. Instead, reference something specific: a recent hire at their company, a segment they cover, a new line of business they announced.

Example: "Saw you hired three new folks in your claims automation group. That's exactly where we're seeing the most operational gains right now."

Accept rates run 40-60% when you reference something recent. Rejection rates drop to 5-10% when your note is specific rather than generic. After they accept, wait 2-3 days before sending a follow-up message. They'll have seen your company name by then.

Keep your LinkedIn message short. One question or observation, not a pitch. The goal is to establish common ground, not to close in the DM.

Email Sequences

Your email sequence should land after LinkedIn connection acceptance. Send it from a real person's inbox, not a no-reply address. InsurTech buyers respond to emails that reference their specific line of business or recent company news.

Structure your sequence:

1. Day 1: LinkedIn connects; wait

2. Day 2: First email; references something company-specific; asks one question

3. Day 4: Second email; adds context or social proof; positions value without pitching

4. Day 6: Phone attempt (see below); email references the call attempt

5. Day 10: Final email; repositions value or offers to connect at a specific time

Keep subject lines under 50 characters. Test what works, but we see better open rates (35-45%) with questions over statements. "Is your team still managing claims triage manually?" outperforms "We automate claims processing."

Phone Outreach

This is where insurtech outbound separates winners from noise. A 2-3 minute call from a real person with a specific reason to call converts 2-3x better than email alone.

Call on Tuesdays through Thursdays, 9am-11am or 2pm-4pm in their timezone. (We've tested this with 10,000+ outbound dials. Timing matters.)

Your call intro:

"Hi [Name], this is [You] from Nurturance. I know you haven't met me. I noticed you're managing [specific function], and we've worked with three carriers in your region who reduced [specific metric]. Do you have 30 seconds?"

That's it. They'll either say yes or no. If yes, you have their attention. If no, politely hang up. Respect their time.

Connect rates on insurtech calls run 18-24% when you're reaching the right title. If you're below 15%, your list quality is the problem, not your pitch.

SMS and Slack

These channels work as reinforcement only, not as primary outreach. SMS can work after a call attempt: "Hi Sarah, tried catching you at [company]. Does Friday 2pm work for a quick call?" We see 12-15% response rates on SMS follow-ups.

Slack is trickier. Only use it if you've confirmed it's the prospect's work Slack (check LinkedIn or their company website). One message, zero follow-ups. Slack messages feel invasive if unsolicited.

Sequencing and Timing

The real power of multi-channel is timing, not volume. Don't send all five emails and make five calls in one week. That's harassment. Instead:

  • Day 1-2: LinkedIn connection + first email

  • Day 4-5: Phone call + second email

  • Day 8-10: Third email + SMS (optional) if no response yet

  • Day 15+: Pause or re-engage if they've shown interest

This gives them multiple opportunities to respond without feeling relentless. Most responses come on days 4-6 when they've seen your name twice.

Targeting and List Quality

Your channel strategy only works if your list is clean. Before you spend money on any outreach, validate your contacts.

Filter for:

  • Specific titles (VP of Claims, Head of Underwriting, Chief Underwriter, CRO). Avoid generic "decision maker" lists.

  • Company size (typically $50M+ revenue; smaller carriers don't have outsourced ops budgets)

  • Geography (focus on one region or country first; multi-country campaigns dilute messaging)

  • Recent hiring or funding signals (these indicate active budgets)

Use email verification before sending anything. MillionVerifier or Hunter.io will catch bounces and spam traps before they hurt your domain reputation. A list of 500 clean, targeted contacts outperforms a list of 5,000 dirty contacts every time.

Conversion Metrics to Track

Monitor these across all channels:

  • Connection rate (LinkedIn): target 40%+

  • Email open rate: target 30%+

  • Reply rate: target 3-5% (this is the metric that matters)

  • Call connect rate: target 15%+

  • Appointment rate (from conversations): target 15-25%

If any channel is underperforming, stop and fix it. Don't scale a broken process.

How Nurturance Can Help

Building a multi-channel insurtech campaign yourself requires coordination, messaging discipline, and real calling infrastructure. Most in-house teams get the email part right and skip the phone. They miss 60% of the revenue.

At Nurturance, we run real calling teams through the Glencoco marketplace for pay-per-meeting pricing. You don't pay for dials or connects. You only pay for qualified conversations that reach your prospect.

We handle the list targeting, the email sequences, the call scripts, and the tracking. We know insurtech buyers because we've called them hundreds of times.

If you want to test multi-channel outreach without building the whole machine in-house, let's talk. Book a call and we'll walk through your ideal customer profile, show you how we'd approach your market, and price it against your pipeline targets.
